Unfortunately, we live in a world where a business (or fake business for that matter) exists in order to perform fraudulent services for members of our community. That’s why it is important for you to know the differences between a legitimate moving company and a company that makes a living scamming hard-working people. Although, the signs aren’t always obvious, there are some subtle cues that can indicate whether or not a company is professional and reliable.
We at OFR care deeply for members of the community and would like to educate you on a few things to watch out for when choosing a company for your next residential or commercial move. We would also like to stop scammers such as these from giving legitimate moving companies like ours a bad name.
Some things to watch out for are:
- No Insurance or Other Credentials- Companies that aren’t able to provide simple documentation like insurance can arouse suspicion. Make sure the company you decide on is able to provide these credentials upon request.
- A Federal Government Booklet- Moving companies are required to present their clients with a booklet that explains the customer’s rights and responsibilities. If your company cannot do this, be wary of their services.
- No Company Trucks- If the company you are hiring doesn’t own their own trucks, it may be cause for concern. Established and reputable moving companies generally always have their own trucks.
- No Physical Address- It is a major red flag when any business of any kind doesn’t provide you with a physical address. Be extremely careful when dealing with new businesses and stay away from a company with no address.
As with any new venture, you must take caution when finding a new company to work with. Be informed and don’t be taken by fake companies.
